
Aswa West police have confirmed opening a general inquiry file into the attack by security personnel on civilians in Gulu City on Saturday.
Supporters of National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi were injured after being beaten.
ASP Ongom David Mudong, Aswa West Regional Police Spokesperson, condemned the acts of hooliganism and criminality, stating that they are closely monitoring those behind these incidents, believed to be organized and deliberate acts of criminality.
He urged victims to come forward and report incidents to aid investigations. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and arrest those responsible.
Aswa West Police noted unfortunate incidents of criminal activities, including assaults and looting, orchestrated by hooligans in Gulu city.
Bobi Wine, 43, said in posts on X on Saturday that security forces had hit him in the face with a cane and that other supporters at the rally in Gulu had been treated in hospital after being beaten.
In a released statement, the Uganda Police Force Spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke called the incident ” regrettable, undesirable, and unfortunate.”
